Welcome to Beaufort History Museum

Whether you were born into a family that’s been in Beaufort for generations or have just come here, chances are you are under Beaufort’s spell. For centuries, Beaufort’s natural beauty has attracted us to her, and once here, we feel we are home.

The Beaufort History Museum was formed to tell the stories of those centuries and begin to explain the city’s allure to both residents and visitors. Housed in Beaufort’s historic Arsenal, the Museum provides a tangible record of our history. Historic artifacts on display represent Native American settlements, Spain's first New World colonial capital of Santa Elena, Union occupation during the Civil War, and 20th-century industries including phosphate mining, truck farming, shrimping and oystering.

We thank Beaufort’s City Council for their support.   You, too, can contribute as a member, volunteer or donor.
