Calling all of Beaufort’s Children!

It’s 1780 and Children’s Day at the Museum 10:00 – 4:00

Cannon fires at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.

Come see and hear the cannon as it is fired! The Beaufort History Museum will be hosting a Revolutionary War Living History Reenactment in the Arsenal courtyard at 713 Craven Street (closed to traffic).

Children are encouraged to attend and participate in the recreation of the Battle of Port Royal brought to you by "Liberty Live" the Southern Campaign 1780 promoting "Living History" to educate, entertain, and inspire audiences of all ages through participation and inquiry-based methods. Join us for this unique experience!

Children will be divided into Patriots and Loyalists to fight in this recreation of the Battle of Port Royal Island in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary WarWe need at least 50 children per battle.

Designed and scripted to meet state education standards, this has been a highly successful fun hands-on inquiry-based learning experience for children of all ages. Authentic time period hats and child-safe musket replicas will be provided.

Three battles will be fought: 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. starting with the firing of the cannon. Please make sure your children are on time in order to participate.

Children will learn:

  • Drills

  • period medical practices

  • the fight against historical epidemics

  • how to carry and load a musket using black sugar and gummy balls

  • cannon and ballistics lessons

Soldiers” can handle a real cannon and test their aim with a “hand cannon,” all child friendly and safe. No real ammo will be used.
