Donation Type - Qualified Charitable Distribution

For those 70 ½ or older, each year you can instruct your IRA custodian to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to an eligible charity such as Beaufort History Museum and avoid paying the tax had you taken the distribution as income.  If you have any questions about the tax implications of whether this option is right for you, we recommend consulting a tax professional, your financial advisor, or both.

Here are the basic steps involved.

  • Step 1:  You or your IRA custodian will need to call us at (843) 379-3079 or email us at donations@beauforthistorymuseum.com to obtain our Employer Identification Number (EIN) and the address to which you will send the distribution check.  This lets us know of your intent to donate.  Due to security constraints, we are not able to provide our EIN online but here is our mailing address:

Beaufort History Museum

P.O. Box 172

Beaufort, SC 29901

  • Step 2:  With the information obtained in Step 1, your IRA custodian will prepare and mail a check to Beaufort History Museum.
